Disable Cam Mic

Before you disable a cam mic please make sure that you have an alternate microphone plugged into your sound card. The following tutorial is made with windows XP but it is very similar in all versions of windows.

First you have to open your sound/multimedia properties. The fastest way to do this is to right click the speaker icon beside the clock then left click on adjust audio properties.

adjust audio properties

This will open another window, in xp it is called sound and audio devices, in 98 it is called multimedia. Click on the audio tab.

Audio properties 98

here you can see three sections, playback, recording and midi ( in 98 there is just playback and recording). We are interested in the recording section, as you can see the default device shown above is the logitech cam mic, we want to change that to the soundcard. click the drop down arrow beside the cam mic and then click on the soundcard to put it in the box.

Sound and audio devices properties choose sound card

Once the soundcard is selected you have to put a check in the box at the bottom that says "use only default devices". Then click apply and ok.

You should now be using your regular mic and sound card. If the mic isn't working please check here on setting up the mic.

I hope this helps you, if you have any problems please come see us in Paltalk.
